The government is really good at catching insider trading.
Sometimes people call us and ask us to buy individuals stocks that make me wonder where they get their info. I guess they have some tip, or have read or heard something. They are not sure exactly how to maximize their gains from that tip. We never take them on as clients.
If you think you have inside information, and you really do, don’t act on it. There’s a good chance they will catch you. Most people who think they have inside information don’t. If you’re on a board of directors, or you are a high ranking official at a public company, you might have inside information. Don’t act on it because other people know you have that information.
If you just read something in the paper and think you know something that everybody else doesn’t know, you don’t. Take that tip and throw it in the trash.
